Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Elucid (the "Service"), operated by Liminaut Labs ("we," "us," or "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service. These Terms apply to all visitors, registered users, and paying subscribers.

2. Description of Service

Elucid is a research-grade dream interpretation platform that analyzes dream content through twelve interpretive traditions using artificial intelligence and a curated source corpus. The Service is provided through web, iOS, and Android applications hosted at liminaut-labs.org.

Elucid is not a medical service, mental health service, or therapeutic service of any kind. Nothing produced by the Service constitutes medical advice, psychological diagnosis, or clinical treatment. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis or require professional support, please contact a licensed healthcare provider or a crisis line appropriate to your region.

3. Accounts and Registration

You must create an account to save dreams, access interpretations, or use paid features. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete registration information.
  • Maintain the security of your password and accept responsibility for all activity under your account.
  • Notify us immediately at moonlit-social-labs@proton.me if you suspect unauthorized account access.
  • Be at least 13 years of age. Users under 18 require parental or guardian consent.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. Free and Paid Tiers

Elucid offers a free tier and paid subscription tiers ("Elucid Pro"). The two tiers differ in how the engine processes a dream, not just in monthly quotas.

Free tier: When you submit a dream, the engine performs hybrid semantic + keyword search across our public-domain corpus and returns the most relevant passages grouped by interpretive framework. No third-party AI service is invoked; your dream text never leaves our servers in plaintext. Encrypted dream storage and the source passages themselves are included on every tier.

Paid tiers: Subscriptions add Claude-powered synthesis on top of the same corpus retrieval — the matched passages are sent (along with your dream narrative) to Anthropic's Claude API, which produces a structured interpretation with citations grounded in the retrieved passages. If the Claude call fails for any reason, the response gracefully degrades to the free-tier passages-only shape, so you always receive useful material. Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually through our payment processor. You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not offer prorated refunds for partial billing periods except where required by applicable law.

We reserve the right to change pricing with at least 30 days advance notice to current subscribers.

5. Interpretations

On the free tier, the Service returns the source passages from our public-domain corpus most relevant to your dream — no AI synthesis, no third-party LLM call. On paid tiers, those passages are sent to Anthropic's Claude API together with your dream narrative and synthesized into a structured interpretation with citations grounded in the retrieved passages. All interpretations — passages-only or AI-synthesized — are probabilistic and exploratory in nature. They represent possible frameworks for understanding your dream, not definitive diagnoses or predictions.

We follow a principle of epistemic humility: the Service will never state "this dream means X." It will present possibilities, cite sources, and invite your own reflection. You are the final authority on the meaning of your dreams.

6. Encrypted Dream Content

All dream content you submit is encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM encryption with user-derived keys. This means that even Liminaut Labs personnel cannot read your individual dream content in plaintext form under normal operating conditions.

You acknowledge that encryption does not make data completely immune to all threats, and you accept the residual risks inherent in any cloud-based data storage system.

7. User Content

You retain ownership of all dream content and other content you submit to the Service ("User Content"). By submitting User Content, you grant Liminaut Labs a limited, non-exclusive license to process and transmit your User Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you.

We will not use your individually identifiable User Content for any purpose other than delivering the Service to you, including not using it to train AI models without your explicit, opt-in consent. See our Privacy Policy for details on anonymized aggregate use.

You agree not to submit User Content that:

  • Violates any applicable law or regulation.
  • Infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party.
  • Contains malicious code or attempts to interfere with the Service.

8. Intellectual Property

The Elucid platform, application code, source corpus curation, analysis pipeline, and all content produced by Liminaut Labs (excluding User Content) are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our proprietary content without our prior written consent.

Source texts in our corpus are in the public domain or licensed for our use. Individual citations and source attributions are provided within interpretations and reflect the original authors.

9. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the Service's source code or analysis algorithms.
  • Scrape, bulk-export, or automatically query the Service without prior written permission.
  • Use the Service to build a competing product or service.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.
  • Use the Service in any manner that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair our servers.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Service.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT INTERPRETATIONS WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE.

We are not responsible for decisions you make based on dream interpretations provided by the Service. Use of the Service for self-understanding is at your own discretion and risk.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MOONLIT SOCIAL LABS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR (B) ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS.

12. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Liminaut Labs and its members, employees, contractors, and agents from any claim, liability, damage, or expense (including attorneys' fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your User Content, or your violation of these Terms.

13. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with the following third-party providers. Your use of the Service is also subject to the terms and privacy policies of these third parties to the extent your data is processed by them. See the Privacy Policy §6 for the full data-flow description.

  • Anthropic (Claude API) — paid-tier interpretation synthesis only.
  • Voyage AI — semantic embeddings and reranking for corpus retrieval (free + paid tiers).
  • Resend — transactional email delivery (account verification, password reset).
  • Neon — managed PostgreSQL hosting for encrypted dream content + corpus.
  • Railway — application server hosting.
  • Vercel — marketing site hosting and DNS management.
  • Plausible Analytics — cookieless usage analytics on the marketing site only.
  • PostHog — opt-out aggregate product analytics in the mobile app (no dream content).

14. Modifications to the Service and Terms

We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the Service at any time. We will provide reasonable notice of material changes to these Terms by email or in-app notification. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

15. Termination

You may close your account at any time via account settings or by emailing moonlit-social-labs@proton.me. Upon termination, your encrypted dream content will be permanently deleted within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account for violations of these Terms without prior notice.

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Liminaut Labs is established, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration or, where arbitration is not permitted by law, in the courts of that jurisdiction.

17. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
